Vessel Snowboard Concept Press Release |

The 164 Vessel concept started with the need for faster
freeride boards. Since
Rad Air
gives me the opportunity to create my own board just the way I like, I was really
eager to make a board that reflects the needs of a modern freerider. A bigger,
almost oldschool sidecut radius was applied for longer, and faster GS like turns
and easy handling in powder. To show the market that it is a fresh way of thinking
and not a retro design for a board, the graphics needed to represent speed. In
the beginning the idea was to design the board like a stockcar. Simply to apply
stockcar graphics. The idea grew, and I myself had just met Ståle
Møller, a very talented Industrial Designer from Norway. So I called him
to ask him if he had a good idea for a board. We figured out that 3D molding is
possible these days and Ståle came up with spaceship-like snowboards. Now
we have changed the looks completely. The board started having little vents and
engines. Of course it was only for the eyes. Now we placed all 3D moldings in
places where the board actually needed to be stiffer, and we actually made Design
match Technology. Nic Ripz added his art in a really futuristic way, and
born was the Vessel 164.. A George Lucas like Starwars snowboard for really
fast rides....... by Reto Lamm Ståle Møller: Civil
